What is GetYourGuide
A Zurich-born unicorn, now the largest tours platform by revenue
GetYourGuide was founded in 2009 in Zurich by ETH Zurich classmates Johannes Reck, Tao Tao, Martin Sieber and Tobias Rein, after Reck arrived a day early for a trip to Beijing and struggled to navigate the city alone — an experience that convinced them travelers needed a better way to find local guides. The idea started as a peer-to-peer "eBay for tours" before pivoting to a professional booking platform in 2010, and the company relocated to Berlin in 2012 to raise venture capital.
GetYourGuide became a unicorn in 2019 following a $484 million Series E round led by SoftBank Vision Fund. In late 2025, it became the first tours-and-activities platform to surpass €1 billion in annual revenue, selling over 10 million bookings in a single quarter. The platform now lists more than 200,000 activities across roughly 18,000 destinations worldwide, with 1,000+ employees, and analysts expect it to explore an IPO by 2027.
Scale
200,000+ activities across ~18,000 destinations worldwide.
Milestone
First tours platform to pass €1 billion in annual revenue.
Worth knowing: GetYourGuide doesn't run one permanent, sitewide discount code. Instead, deals rotate — commonly ranging from around 10% off for new users up to 50% off during broader sales — shown directly on the booking page or applied automatically through GetYourGuide's Deals page. Check the current offer on your chosen activity before booking, since the exact discount varies by tour, season and promotion.
